Melissa Hatcher | Offering private lessons in Salem, Oregon |
Introduction My name is Melissa Hatcher and I am passionate about music! It is my joy to help both children and adults learn to play the piano and/or sing which is why my studio is called Jubilate Music Studio from the Latin, "to express great joy". I believe that music does just that.
My Teaching Background I have been singing and playing the piano since I was a small child and have been performing almost as long. I have worked with choirs and in churches as an accompanist and vocalist for over 25 years. For three years I taught music, drama, choir and ensemble at private schools in Louisiana. I teach traditional piano lessons, reading music and theory. I am also qualified to teach The Nashville Number System, a chord based approach used by studio musicians all over the world. I am a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs and the local chapter, The Salem Federated Music Club and have entered students in the yearly festival for the past seven years, five of them in Salem. I also entered students in the Baptist Hymn Festival for several years in Louisiana. As a private teacher both in Louisiana and Oregon for the past 14 years, I look forward to working with you.
In addition, my students have two to three opportunities each year to perform in studio recitals. Traditionally we have a Christmas Recital, a Sacred Recital in February and in May a final recital featuring Broadway, Disney and Show Tunes.
I am currently teaching elementary music at Willamette Christian School in Turner and have a dynamic Praise Team of fourteen 3rd through 5th graders who will be leading the chapel music program all year.
My Teaching Philosophy Performing music for many people is an intimidating thought. For many, the thought of actually singing out loud or playing for a group of people seems outside the realm of possibility. I have found that music is an integral part of most of our lives. Whether it's just listening to music, singing in church, in the car with the tunes blasting or singing that lullaby to our sleepy child, music surrounds us. It is not an unattainable dream. I believe with all of my heart that by starting with the fundamentals, in a fun and engaging way, students of all ages can gain confidence and skill to enable them to not only play and sing for their own enjoyment, but for many to perform for others as well. As your teacher, I will offer my experience and love of music in a positive atmosphere conducive to personal growth. We will work through the tough spots, laugh a lot and see the fruit of our effort in the process.
Rates And Availability My studio is in the well lit, bright and cheery front room of my house in South Salem. Please email me for rates and availability. I am now registering new and returning students for the school year. Space is limited so make sure to contact me right away to reserve your lesson time and to register. I am looking forward to a great 2010-2011 musical year of growth for all my students.
