    About MeContact Me
I offer lessons in flute, piano, accompanying and music theory. The method of study that I use is the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. You can read more about this program below, or go online to:

I received my MM in flute performance in 1980. My teachers have included Ransom Wilson (French techniques) and Betty Bang Mather (early flute and Baroque techniques.) In addition, I have participated in master classes with such eminent flautists as the late Jean-Pierre Rampal. Not limited just to classical, I have also played and toured with a jazz/rock band. I have been teaching for over 40 years at all levels and ages, including teaching at the University of Kansas. My students have participated in student orchestras and successfully participated in solo and ensemble events with highest ratings. I currently free-lance on flute. I have played for numerous recordings in both classical and pop style.

Lessons cover technique, tone production with an emphasis on proper embouchure, intonation, music theory, performing and performance etiquette, ensemble playing, sightreading and repertoire. I can also help you prepare for solo and ensemble as well as symphony and college auditions. Above all, I want you to enjoy playing the flute!

I have been playing piano since I was 5, and it has been a lively means of support through most of my life, from high school on. I have written a short book called, Accompanying and the Choir: A Guide for Accompanists and Conductors to Artistic Choral Accompanying. I currently work as an accompanist for the award winning Columbia Children's Choir.

I teach classical style, with attention given to technique as well as theory, sightreading and repertoire. I have helped many students prepare for solo and ensemble. Lessons are not limited to classical, however. I can also help you with pop/rock styles, especially for those of you who desire to play keyboard with your church's worship team.

Accompanying (collaborative studies) students can expect a more specialized lesson, depending on their level of proficiency, and who they might currently be accompanying. But you don't need to be accompanying somebody in order to learn this understudied art. There is much to learn even without a partner to play for!

    Music Theory
I have a BM in Music Composition from the University of Kansas. If you would like lessons in music theory, just get in touch, and let's get started! I love theory, and the study of it is fascinating, and provides so much insight into understanding the music you play. The better you understand theory, the better you will be able to communicate the musical ideas that are intrinsic to every piece you play!
