    Introduction

The Tuned In Academy is your resource for all of your music education needs in the South Puget Sound.

From The Tuned In Academy website http://www.thetunedinacademy.org :

Your resource for quality and affordable music lessons in the Olympia, Lacey, and DuPont area. Private lessons. Group music classes.

We are a local music academy that exists to provide conservatory quality music education in ensemble (group) and private lesson environments, at an affordable price.

With three trained, seasoned, and professional musician-educators on faculty , our focus is on quality, relational, and thorough education to real people, not numbers. We offer music instruction in band instruments (trumpet, trombone, saxophone, flute, clarinet, and French horn), percussion (beginning drum class), piano, voice, and guitar.

    Sean-David: Trumpet, Improvisation, and Composition

Sean-David began playing the piano at age seven and later picked up the trumpet in the fifth grade. After seeing Louis Armstrong play the trumpet on television, he was convinced he needed to play the trumpet. A Northwest native, many of his early music experiences were lived out as a trumpet player in thee award winning Auburn High School Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Marching Band. Sean-David is a graduate of Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) where he studied jazz composition and performance with jazz greats like Phil Wilson, Greg Hopkins, Jeff Stout, Lin Biviano, and Hal Crook. “SD” also studied jazz improvisation privately with Jerry Bergonzi (world-renowned jazz artist and educator) for over a year and a half while in Boston. Sean-David served for six years in the U.S. Army Bands both in the US and abroad. He has experience playing professionally in a variety of environments; small groups, big bands, orchestral, musical theatre, and in churches, but jazz music is his passion as a musician. Sean-David is also a skilled and educated composer often writing new music to serve community.

Sean-David recently completed his first book for musicians, The Tuned In Musician. Tuned In is a book for musicians and artists who seek not just to create art, but also to be tuned in better to those the music serves.

    Jenna: Piano, Voice, and Songwriting

Jenna began her musical journey at age five studying piano. By age eleven, she began studying voice. Soon after, she picked up the flute, trumpet, and guitar. Throughout her high school years, Jenna took every opportunity to perform in plays, musicals, clubs, restaurants, and with the American Music Abroad throughout Europe. In her senior year of high school, Jenna was accepted into the Harrisburg Arts Magnet School. It was at HAMS that she had the opportunity to study in depth the art of Musical Theatre, which would become a passion of hers.

Jenna also studied at Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) where she studied both performance and songwriting with an emphasis in voice. At Berklee she studied with renowned musicians and performers, including Livingston Taylor, Pat Pattison, John Aldrich, and Larry Watson. Jenna taught elementary music and choir at Christian Faith School in Seattle, and has taught privately for nearly fifteen years.

Jenna just had a baby and is focused on caring for him now, but will begin teaching in January 2014 with The Simply Singers Vocal Ensemble which will be an awesome class. If you have a budding young vocalist or your child just wants to sing then this class is for you. It will fill up fast, so drop us a line. Class starts this winter (semester begins Jan 6, 2014).

    My Teaching Philosophy
Sean-David began teaching privately nearly fifteen years ago after graduating from Berklee College of Music. He has worked with trumpet players, piano players, flute players..(and more), and teaches what you want to know in a relatable and easy to understand way. As a musician, SD spent years struggling with what it meant to want his own musical voice (and not to sound like someone else). If you are seeking to find your individual voice on trumpet, in composition, on your instrument, or in improvisation, SD would love to help you find it.

If you want technical skills and preparation, SD can help you. Sean-David knows what is required of musicians for entrance into premier music opportunities. He has exceeded the necessary standards of entrance to the US Army Bands, Berklee College of Music, and even musical theater positions.

SD has a passion for music theory and loves finding ways to make theory, chord scales, and song form easier to understand. If that sort of thing has always boggled or frustrated you, but you know it is important and want to learn, give SD a call.

Jenna began teaching privately nearly fifteen years ago after graduating from Berklee College of Music. She has worked with vocalists, piano players, and singer songwriters of all ages. Jenna teaches what you want to know in a relatable and easy to understand way.

If you want technical skills and preparation, Jenna can help you. She knows what is required of vocalists for entrance into premier music opportunities. She has extensive experience and education in a variety of styles from pop, jazz, folk, and blues to musical theatre. Jenna is also active with the National Federation of Music Clubs. Her students will have the opportunity, if they choose, to sharpen their skills through healthy competition on piano or voice.

If you are looking for private lessons with someone you can count on for personalized, professional, and fun learning, then give Jenna a call.

Robert can help you. From the beginner to the pro who wants to learn new styles or techniques, Robert can provide individual tailored instruction to put you on the right path to learning the art of guitar, and growing as a musician.
