Robin Kani | Offering private lessons in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania |
Introduction My name is Robin Kani and I grew up in Flint, Michigan. I attended Interlochen Arts Camp every summer as well as a program with Pittsburgh Symphony in Ambler, Pa. I attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, then went to University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), then on to Juilliard where I received a Master of Music degree. I was in New York for about 7 years. Then, with some wooing from my husband (Larry Wright - we met at Juilliard), we moved to the Lehigh Valley, Pa. It is about 1 1/2 hours from N.Y. and an hour from Philadelphia. Good location! I love it here. I studied with Alex Murray, Erv Monroe, Keith Bryan, Sam Baron, Keith Underwood, Murray Panitz. I am Principal flute in Bach Festival Orchestra of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Sinfonia, Allentown Symphony, Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra (for 25 years. It just folded). I am a Principal sub in Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Harrisburg Symphony, Philadelphia Ballet and sub in Philadelphia Orchestra.
My Teaching Background I started teaching at a young age. In college, I traveled to several schools in Ann Arbor and taught flute students there. In New York, I was teaching privately all over the city, also at Rye Country Day School and two different summer music camps. Since moving to Pa. I teach flute at Lehigh University, Moravian College and at my private studio at home. I have taught at Cedar Crest College and Lafayette University. I was swamped when I was doing that all at the same time! My students usually place in the top 5 in High School District through State competitions. I have students attending or have attended University of Michigan, The Juilliard School, Hartt School of Music, Ithaca School of Music, Manhattan Pre-college, Juilliard Pre-college, San Francisco Conservatory, Cal Arts, Temple and more.
My Teaching Philosophy I teach all ages. Usually, I start young ones in 4th or 5th grade. A favorite age group for me, because the student is so fresh and ready to take in whatever you tell them, hardly dealing with bad habits. I am a bug about sound. My students are known for having beautiful sounds. The 1st visit is always like a doctors visit. I check everything out (fingerings, breathing, posture, etc.), have them order music and start with very basic concepts. Scales, arpeggios and patterns are started directly. The student has great responsiblilty if he/she wants to improve. Practicing, listening to great musicians, focusing on what was talked about in the lesson, keeping a useful notebook and more.
Prerequisite: love of music
Rates And Availability I only teach non-college students at home. One hour is 60 dollars 45 minutes is 50 dollars Scholarships available!!!! Please e-mail me with any concerns.
