Today was the launch of the 40 Song Challenge!

Any student can participate. Keep track of all the songs you have successfully played since September and add a sticker to your challenge sheet. Students were give packets of holiday and other music at or just below there current level. With the longer nights, this is a great time to really enjoy playing. The more you play, the better you get. It all adds up to some good learning as we head toward the end of 2015. At our annual Spring Music Celebration, students who complete the 40 Song Challenge will be recognized and receive a special prize!

I've learned a few things over the years of music teaching. Motivation and fun are two very important ingredients. So this morning, after my exercise routine, I'll be putting the finishing touches on my costume (MadamLegato, the Forte-teller!), yes, I'll be telling my students future, that they will enjoy many years of playing music and it will bring happiness! Should studio teaching be this much fun?
    Why, YES!
Smiles, laughter, engagement, imagination and community go a long way to leveraging the influence of your well planned music lessons. Generally, kids and many adults learn in groups, classes, schools, sports, workshops, etc...., so individual lessons is an exception. The COMBINATION of regular private lessons and occasional group events, amps up the overall experience of learning to play an instrument.

Creating low pressure, high enjoyment gatherings for your students to show what they know builds confidence. So today, my studio will be filled with songs about spiders, mummies, halloween cats, an old woman with a broom and even Bach's Toccata in Dm (we'll use the digital keyboard set to organ, for this one!). It will be BOO-ti-FULL!
