Introduction
Hi, I love studying, playing and teaching music. I've been playing instruments for over 30 years now, and teaching for about 15. I play and teach saxophone, clarinet, and flute; beginning-intermediate piano, guitar and violin; classical, jazz, rock, and pop. A few other things, too; ask me!
My Teaching Background
I studied music education formally at an Eastern university; many years of private lessons with noted teachers in and around New York City. I've learned the most about teaching by just doing it.
My Teaching Philosophy
1. I use a "student-centered" approach-I won't force you to do anything, but I will "strongly encourage" you to learn your scales, arpeggios, tone exercises and songs! 2. Not everyone is equally gifted in music, but almost anyone can learn to play something; 3. Learning music, as anything else, is a lifelong process; we never reach the point where we "know it all;" 4. Studying music can help improve your abilities in other subjects; 4. Music can uplift the spirit; as performers, we have the opportunity to share positive energy with others.
Rates And Availability
I teach in the morning, afternoon, and early evening on weekdays; occasionally weekends during the school year (September-June). Currently I have the most openings in the morning and early afternoon. I come to your home. The basic rate is $140. for four 45-minute lessons. Other lesson lengths are possible. I offer discounts for more than one student in a household.
