Michael Connolly | Offering private lessons in Seattle, Washington |
Introduction My name's Michael Connolly. I'm a fiddle and mandolin player and teacher, as well as the founder of this website, LearningMusician.com. I believe that music teachers, players, and listeners are all "learning musicians" -- we're all interested in learning how to teach better, play better, and enjoy music more fully.
About Me I was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and spent my childhood steeped in bluegrass, gospel, Irish, jazz, and just about any other genre of music I could get my hands on. Although I've flirted with many instrument families, including a fairly serious stint as a orchestral clarinet player, I have primarily focused on fiddle and mandolin for the last 10 years, covering a range of old-time, bluegrass, Irish, jazz, and simply "American" music.
Performances I have performed and recorded with many wonderful Seattle bands, including the Korby Lenker Band, Coyote Grace, Kate Graves Dysfunction Junction, The Dustmakers, and as a founding member of the "bluegrass-ish" band Captain Gravel.
I am available as a session player for your album, either on a track-by-track or by-project basis.
My Teaching I currently have openings for mandolin, fiddle, guitar and whistle students in the bluegrass, old-time, and Irish traditions. Whether you're a beginner looking for a good start on these instruments and to avoid bad habits, or an advanced student looking for tips on phrasing, repertoire, or improvisational skills, I can help you out.
I teach out of Empty Sea Studios in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood. Please contact me for more information and we'll get started!
