    Introduction
Welcome to the wonderful study of piano. I hope you find your experience exciting and rewarding. I want to share with you a few things about myself, philosophy, and expectations.

I hold a bachelorís degree in music education from Otterbein College. I have studied private piano for 17 years and have extensive experience with solo and accompaniment playing. I have also taught choral and general music in public and private schools for 5 years.I have taught private piano lessons for 7 years in Columbus, Ohio and the Chicago Area. I am moving to the Seattle area in the summer and plan on building a piano studio.

    My Teaching Background
I believe in starting piano in a traditional method. I teach theory and note reading skills as we learn to play the instrument. Students will use a lesson book to learn concepts and play practice songs. Students will have a theory/note speller to enforce concepts by written assignments. Students will also have a solo book for recitals and other performances. I also encourage to students to play music they know and like with various types of music. (jazz, hymns, classics, movie themes, etc.) As students progress they will also play finger exercises and scales.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I expect students to be practicing everyday, even if it is just a few minutes. Students will retain more skills and information with this constant effort. Coming to a lesson without practice is very difficult for the student and teacher. Practice amounts will vary depending on age level and skill. Students will have a practice record book for their weekly assignments and practice chart. I will write the expectations for the week and check them the next week.
