    McElroy Piano Studio
    220 E. 2nd St., Suite B
    Arlington, WA 98223

I accept piano students of all ages (preschool - adult) and all levels (beginning - advanced), with interests ranging from recreational music making to pursuing a career in music. My studio is conveniently located in downtown Arlington. I have a meticulously maintained grand piano, a high quality digital piano and ample room for group activities.

    My Education and Experience
I have been teaching since 1982. I majored in piano performance at Ithaca College and studied privately with Robbert de Vries (New England Conservatory) and concert artist Ruth McCann (student of Alexander Siloti). My education includes Piano Pedagogy (Western Washington University), Early Childhood Music Education (Kindermusik) and I am a certified Ultimate Music Theory instructor (UMTC). I am an active member of the Snohomish County Music Teachers’ Association (SCMTA, affliliated with WSMTA & MTNA), currently serving as 1st Vice President. I regularly attend teachers’ workshops as well as regional and state conferences. In addition to teaching, I perform as a soloist and in collaboration with various other musicians, as well as an accompanist. I have worked in a variety of musical situations, including teaching general music in public elementary school, directing middle school and high school choir in public school and for home school groups, coaching pianists in local school jazz programs, Kindermusik teacher, instrumental/vocal coach and accompanist, dance accompanist, and music director and pianist for community, school and summer stock theatre productions. I volunteer for community and school activities and have served on the board of various chamber music societies.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I use a variety of repertoire and pedagogical ideas to create an individual program of study for each student. Artistry and healthy technique are emphasized at every level. Students attend weekly private lessons and a monthly group class (not required for adult students). Group classes provide an opportunity for performance and often include theory, music appreciation, history, games and other instruction. There are up to four Studio Recitals each year. Additional opportunities for performance, participation and competition are available. I am passionate about playing and teaching and am dedicated to providing quality instruction in a nurturing environment to develop a lifelong love of music and the piano.

    Ultimate Music Theory
Music theory is included in the curriculum for all piano students enrolled in the studio. Ultimate Music Theory classes are also available to anyone (not just enrolled piano students). Whether you sing or play any kind of instrument, theory is an essential part of all music study. If you are currently studying another instrument with a private teacher, or making music on your own, UMT classes will enrich and support your experience.
