Ed Wootten, Jr. | Offering private lessons in Cayce, South Carolina |
Introduction I live in Cayce, in the Columbia, SC (Midlands) area. I attended Brookland-Cayce HS and USC-Columbia.
My Teaching Background I have more than 30 years of performing experience, and more than 25 years of experience teaching music. My first instrument was organ, which I learned from Ann Mikell of Rice Music House. I played trumpet in the BCHS marching, concert, jazz, and pep bands, and also in the USC marching, concert, jazz, and pep bands, and in the jazz combo groups. I presently play trumpet in the Columbia Community Orchestra. I majored in Jazz & Commercial Music Theory & Composition at USC studying under the late Dr. John Emche. I took private trumpet lessons from Ron Wheeler and Dr. Keith Amstutz. I studied voice from Christina Richiger, and studied choral conducting from the late Dr. Arpad Daraz. I was in the SC All-State Jazz Band, SC Central Region Band, Lexington All-County Band, and SC All-State Honors Chorus. I toured Europe with the 1983 U.S. Collegiate Wind Band. I am a former member of the Trinity Baptist Orchestra, Trinity Baptist Choir, CIU/Community Concert Band, Benedict College/Community Concert Band, the Arpad Daraz Singers, and former choir director at Pisgah Lutheran Church.
My Teaching Philosophy I tailor the lessons to meet the ambitions and goals of each individual student. Music theory is taught as part of my curriculum for ANY instrument. My objective is to maximize the student's ability with - and therefore enjoyment of - music. I want my students to play/sing as well as possible, but to also have fun on the journey!
Rates And Availability I teach in my home or your home. I typically teach a 30-minute lesson, but I can accomodate other lesson lengths to suit your needs. A 30-minute lesson is $20 in my home, $30 in your home.
