    Introduction

Currently I offer individual private piano and voice lessons and group piano for children and adults.
A group piano class will focus soley on learning how to read music and play songs of varying
styles on the keyboard. Private lessons consist of learning to play expressively, and preparing
for a performance with other students. Each program is 45 minutes in duration.

Sound, tone, creating, feeling, movement, learning to play the keyboard and listening to music is embodied
in my programs. Simple rhythmic based literature activities using poems, stories to enhance musical encounters
are a fun way to expand cognition and fantasy. These experiences provide a way for students to express their
feeling without fear of being evaluated for "right" answers. Our lessons are fun and engaging we utilize musical
games, movement and listening activities. Students are encouraged to play the piano with other students or
    the instructor.

I enjoy having "musical encounters" with people of all ages. Musical training, performance and teaching have occupied
a special part of my life. My teaching style is edgy, I am comfortable with many styles of musical and oral expression from
Haiku's to Hip Hop, Classical, Jazz and R&B.

    My Teaching Background
I have been teaching privately and in the public sector for a period of 12 years. I have had performances with my students at Benaroya Hall, the Washington Center for the Performing Arts. Bush School, the Northwest School of the Arts, and numerous other schools. Performance has been a major part of my musical training and I have had choral performances with the Bellevue and Olympia Symphony orchestras.

Summer, 2009 I had the pleasure of traveling to Belo Horizonte, Brazil where I taught music and art to students ranging in age from K - 5th grade.

    My Teaching Philosophy
Initially, I like to get to know my student. What their musical interests are, what they hope to do with their musical training. My belief is that when a student is exposed to too much technique at first, they may become overwhelmed. As we move beyond getting acquainted with keys, notes and fingering, I further encourage musical development in numerous ways: through listening, movement, rhythm, singing, music games, and the use of percussion instruments. Every student is unique and it is my belief that learning to play the piano is enriched by using a variety of techniques!
