Background
James Smock received a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC). He has also done graduate work at the University of Utah.
In addition to his studies with Dr. Robert Allison (SIUC) and Nick Norton (Utah Symphony), James has also coached with members of the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic.
James has performed with the Britt Festival Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Orchestra, and Oregon Symphony Orchestra. Alongside his busy performance schedule, James teaches trumpet at Clark College.
Teaching Philosophy
James Smock has a unique approach to each student. Everyone learns differently, and James' method is to play to the strengths of each individual. Fundamentals are stressed, as well as practice technique. Learn what to practice, and more importantly, learn HOW to practice.
Availability
James is the Adjunct Trumpet Instructor at Clark College, in Vancouver. He also teaches at Music World, in Battle Ground. There are currently openings at both studios. Visit www.trumpetplayer.us for more information.
