    About MeContact Me
    Introduction
Hello, my name is Jen Grady and I have been a touring and recording musician for the past 15 years. I would like to extend my knowledge of theory, songwriting, reading, performing and ear training to my students. The most important element in my teaching is to empower the student to feel confident in pursuing music further in their lives. All ages and musical styles are encouraged.

    My Teaching Background
I am currently the Strings and Choir instructor at NOVA School in Olympia, WA. I am also a teaching artist with the after school program at Washington Middle School called P.O.G.O (Play On Great Olympia). I lead the cello sectional for the orchestra and teach the students how to read music, proper cello technique, rhythm and ear training exercises, and collaborate as a group.
I also teach students of all ages at my home studio during the week. I teach from the Suzuki and Kummer Methods, provide tutoring for Orchestra rehearsal, sight reading, solo repertoire, duets, and technique training. I emphasize getting my students comfortable with reading music to pursue playing cello with other musicians. I also have experience with using signal processing with the cello and can guide students interested in performing through amplification.

    My formal musical education is:
I am a graduate from The Evergreen State College majoring in Music Production and Audio Engineering in 2005.
I attended the Berklee College of Music in 1999 and 2000.
I am the 2012 recipient of the Williamson Foundation of Music Grant.
I have been a music instructor and vocal private teacher at the Power Chord Academy in 2012 and 2011.

Through my years as a recording and touring cellist around the U.S and Europe I was given the opportunity to meet many inspiring teachers and performers who encouraged me to make music my livelihood. I have been involved with many albums with artists from around the world and performed at the MOMA in San Francisco, theaters in Paris and New York City. I am greatly appreciative for all of these amazing experiences and would like to share my love for music with students with hopes of inspiring them to integrate music into their lives.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I approach each student individually and will craft the lesson around their abilities. I am very interested in making students excited about music being incorporated into their daily lives and encouraging all musical styles of interest. I also have a bi-yearly recital for my students to give them an opportunity to perform for their family and friends.
