    My Teaching Background
Samuel Lee began his love for the piano since six years old. Excel in numerous United Kingdom examinations from Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Then, he further studied music in University of Washington. Upon graduating from the University of Washington, Samuel worked as a music teacher and piano sales consultant at the Piano Store in Kent, Washington. In 2002, Samuel established Music Sprout Piano Studio in Seattle (Beacon Hill), Washington to provide private lessons incorporating various high-tech techniques. Samuel’s ability to communicate the fundamental of piano techniques and motivate children has allowed his students to discover the enjoyment in music and inspiring their creativity. Besides teaching, he also serves as pianist at various special events, from weddings to praise team sessions at churches.

Samuel is an active participant of Seattle Music Teacher Association (SMTA) where he attends meetings and conferences regularly to develop relationships with other piano teachers to share their insights in teaching techniques. By attending performances and concerts regularly, Samuel is constantly enhancing his skills and passions for music. Samuel also organizes concerts and recitals regularly along with his students in concert halls and senior nursing homes with the intent to give back to the community.

    My Teaching Philosophy
    Teaching Philosophy
Unlike some of the traditional styles of teaching, where the focus is always on songs and piano technique, our pedagogy (teaching philosophy) is focused on teaching the music concept as the fundamental block. Once the student acquires the fundamental block through different activities (ear training, theory, body movement, song, etc.), one can apply skill to any kind of music. This is what we believe to be a complete music learning experience.

    Age-specific Programs
At Music Sprout we use the most updated, industry leading materials applicable for different age groups. We realize that no single book can suite everyone.

Age 4-6: Music for Little Mozart by Christine H. Barden, Gayle Kowalchyk & E.L. Lancaster (Alfred publishing)

Age 5-6: My First Piano by Faber and Faber (FJH publishing)

Age 7-15: Piano Adventure by Faber and Faber (FJH publishing)

Adult: Adult Piano Adventure by Faber and Faber (FJH publishing)

Adults with previous piano experience: I Used to Play Piano By E. L. Lancaster, Victoria McArthur, and Various Composers (Alfred publishing)

Besides using a series lesson book, we will utilize supplemental material in theory, ear training, and technique. In addition, we will provide other sources in photocopy form.

    Fun Activities
Besides sitting in front of the piano during our lessons, we create music games to drill on different music concepts in a fun and interactive way.

The following are samples of fun activities used:
    Eurhythmic (body movement)
    Music games
    Solfege sight singing
    Sight reading
    Ear training
    Piano technique
    Music history
    Music software
    Lessons are geared for fun!

    Using Cutting Edge Technology
    MIDI or Accompaniment CD track
With the limited skill of the student at the beginning, music may seem quite complicated.

However, music can be made to sound wonderful when played as a whole ensemble/band with some help from today’s technology like MIDI or Accompaniment CD track.

    Digital piano
With basic keyboard skills and a digital piano/keyboard, you can apply your keyboard skills to play another instrument. For example, some songs are actually written for a guitar. With the use of a digital piano, a guitar song will definitely sound so much better as it was originally written.

At Music Sprout, we host four top-notch pianos and keyboards for students to express their creativity and play like a pro.
