Introduction
Fiddle or Violin?
Well, it all boils down to the 'style' of music played on the 'same' instrument!
Deb Collins is a Pacific Northwestern native with an infectious passion for the 'Fiddle', which began when she was a youngster, and hasn't stopped since. One lesson from Deb and it becomes very evident that she knows her "stuff." Her musical family background runs through her veins. While growing up, she was witness to many jam sessions, rehearsals and musical events in her home. Musicians would come and go, leaving behind their legacies that encouraged her to pursue her current career in the music industry.
She is owner of Fiddle Bits Academy, a place for students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to discover how to bring the joys of violin related instruments into their lives.
Students can take private lessons in two locations: her home studio in Olympia Washington and/or Ted Brown Music Store, in Tacoma, Washington.
For group experience: Beginning Celtic Fiddle course at Pierce College, Continuing Education, and/or the Tune-A-Week program at her home in Olympia. She is also available for guest appearances to teach at Fiddle Camps and/or workshops. New this Summer is a Kid's Summer Fiddle Camp. Contact Deb for more details!
Teaching Background
She's had several years experience teaching both violin and fiddle to students of all ages and abilities in many different settings, both privately and in groups. She has a keen sense of knowing how to approach many different learning styles. She also gained some of her understanding about teaching from her experiences while attending the School of Education at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.
Her network is vast because of her years of developing connections in the music industry. In her brain are many fiddle tunes and in her heart are many fond memories of times spent with many professional musicians and mentors. These special relationships have helped her create a base from which she draws upon to provide what she feels is the best possible learning environment for her students.
When not teaching, Deb plays professionally with Green Mountain Acoustic Music.
My Teaching Philosophy
Her uniquely designed teaching approach is specifically designed with each student’s specific learning style and goals in mind. Her lifetime experiences are intertwined throughout the lessons as she takes each student on a ride that will prove to be an enriching experience. Her one of a kind instructional methods and fun approach guarantee successful results, even if the student has never played before. Students are introduced to the fantastic world of violin related instruments as they attend her fun 'Field Trips' to the many venues available in the Pacific Northwest.
What's on the books for the future with Deb? She's working on a new book filled with her unique Fiddle Tablature of World Folk Tunes. This style of Fiddle Tab has proven to be very successful in allowing students to begin enjoying the fiddle right away. Look for "Fiddle Bits" to be published and available in future.

1/2 Hour: $25.00
45 Minute: $37.50
One Hour: $50.00
For group rates or 2 or more in one family, Home Schooling Families or those with special financial needs, ask about special rates and/or bartering.
