My Teaching Background I have worked as a professional musician for over 25 years. I toured and performed in Europe and the US for many of those years. I have worked for over 25 years on production for major publishers, including work with the Bastien family (major producer of piano method books). I am versatile and play - and teach - many instruments and styles. As a versatile professional musician, I am familiar with many styles of music, and I also know that "one size does not fit all." I have been teaching part-time for over 25 years, working with many of the local schools and summer music camps. In 2003, I founded my own "micro" music school, in order to teach full time.
My Teaching Philosophy Every student is unique and deserves a custom approach. Since I have a diverse background in music, I can custom-tailor a learning program that works for the specific student. Having said that, I do favor using established and proven method books, such as those published by Kjos Music, Hal Leonard, Alfred, FJH, and others. I encourage reading music and theory, because these are the real foundations of rapid music learning. However, I will also work with students who want to learn by ear. I can offer all this training because of my extensive experience working closely with music publishers, and also because of my extensive experience working as a professional musician, performing, recording, and arranging many styles of music over many years.
