    About MeContact Me
I love to play the flute! It is my desire as a teacher to instill that love in my students. My approach is positive, encouraging, and individually tailored to each student. I enjoy working with students of all ages, at all levels. With over 20 years’ experience teaching flute, I am a certified Suzuki flute instructor. My teaching style blends the best features of both Traditional and Suzuki methods.

Although I love to start the young beginners on their musical journey, I also enjoy working with the more advanced high school and college students, adults as beginners, or those adults wishing to take up where they left off years ago. I am primarily a “classical” musician, and my teaching reflects that. My experience with performance and competitions gives me added insight on how to prepare young flutists for recitals, competitions and auditions.

Group lessons are also available. These are arranged on an individual basis. If you have 2-5 young flutists who are interested in starting lessons together, let’s talk! After the first few months, it is usually beneficial to incorporate weekly individual lessons for each child, while continuing to meet as a group on a monthly basis.

Another great offering is the Enchanted Flute Choir - a terrific opportunity to hone your flute skills while meeting and playing with others who share your love of flute music. Contact me for more information on this exciting ensemble!

Lessons are available at my home studio in Oak Harbor, Peterson’s International Music School in Mount Vernon, and Hugo Helmer Music in Burlington.

    My Teaching Background
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in flute performance from Boston University, and studied under such renowned artists as Doriot Anthony Dwyer and Leone Buyse. More recently I enjoyed the honor of being a student of Louis Moyse.

A three-time winner of the Washington State Solo Contest and former member of the Seattle Youth Orchestra, I have also performed as featured soloist with the Skagit Symphony and the North Cascades Concert Band and as principal flute with the Starry Night Orchestra, the Skagit Opera, the Skagit Symphony, Boston University Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood Symphony and the Rome Festival Orchestra.

I have a great love of chamber music, and perform extensively with Trio Lumina and the Christmas touring ensemble “NOEL.” My company, Enchanted Flute Productions, offers exquisite chamber ensembles for corporate and private parties, weddings and celebrations as well as concert performances.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I firmly believe that flute lessons should be fun and enrich your life! I'm looking for students who truly want to learn and improve on their chosen instrument, and who are anxious to be part of my "flute family!" I encourage my students to get to know each other and to play together whenever possible. All members of my studio are expected to be positive and supportive of each other. I recognize that not everyone is aiming to become a professional musician . . . perhaps you want to improve your band grade . . . maybe you'd like to advance your playing skills so you can participate in a local performance group . . . or you would like to prepare for future auditions. I approach each student on an individual basis - no cookie-cutter lessons! Let me know your goal, and we can work together towards making it happen!
