Introduction
Hi! I am Doralyn Bigelow, music teacher for over 27 years, teaching in Iowa in both the public school and private sectors. I have been an orchestra teacher as well.
We live in the Mechanicsville, Iowa, area, however, I have 3 satellite studios in Tipton, Solon, and Mechanicsville, with future plans to expand to North Liberty, at least, in the near future. I travel to these satellite as a remote "traveling" teacher in order to serve my students and their families! I work through churches in these areas, finding that we can help each other :)
I have been told I excite students to keep wanting to come back to the next lesson and the next, to see what progress they have made and what new thing they will be challenged for! :)
I truly love and enjoy teaching music, vocally, basic piano, and strings. I would love to visit and talk with you to answer any questions you may have that you do not see here. Thanks for taking time!My Teaching Background
BA in Music Education through Linfield College, McMinnville, Oregon.
Graduate studies at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, and Mankato, Minnesota, in Music Education.
Have taken private voice lessons, Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa, and have gone to clinics in orchestra to stay current, VanderCook School of Music, Chicago. Also, performed in musicals in high school, college, and after college in the community (Garner, Iowa), and have performed with the NIACC Symphony, as violinist, (Mason City, Iowa).
Currently, am taking online instruction in marketing my music teaching business and in vocal study, to study, examine, and implement the current trends.
I have always taught private lessons, even while in college. My Teaching Philosophy
I always approach teaching with excitement! This is the key to assisting the student! This, and preparedness, produce successful and satisfied students. I look for students who are motivated and willing to learn and who are coachable/teachable.
In return, I offer all the skills and "teachers who have taught me" plus experience to provide the best possible methods, ideas, and incentives for producing the kind of musical talent, skill, and expression they are looking for :) Rates And Availability
I do have a home office; however, as mentioned above, I have 3 satellites for music studio, with more in the future.
Yes, I have thought of coming to students' homes, but have not implemented that at this time, since I am trying to develop my business as close as possible to the area of student interest and need, through the satellite studios. With the Iowa weather, and time constraints, going to homes may prove to be inefficient use of my time. I am always open for ideas, however :)
I proudly offer $15 per half hour lesson; staying focused on the student :), since this time is so valuable. |
