    About MeContact Me
Music = joy! Technique is important but joy and sensitivity is where it's at! I assist my students with not just how to play the notes but also how to listen and how to groove! My musical style is mostly fiddle but I love experimenting and pushing the limits.

‚ÄčI enjoy translating my understanding of music and the violin into words and actions that make sense to each individual. I love those light bulb moments when it suddenly clicks and a whole new world of opportunity opens before the student. I love helping to create experiences of personal satisfaction that lead to intrinsic motivation and sheer joy!

    My Teaching Background
I've been playing fiddle for 25 years and teaching on and off since 2006. I have worked with total newbies to advanced intermediate players ages 5 to 65!

I started learning to play the violin just before I turned 6. I was classically trained through the Suzuki Method until I was 9 when I discovered my Irish roots and never looked back! Now I play all kinds folk music from Swedish to Brazilian to Bluegrass. I was lucky enough to study with Anna Schaad for 8 years until I moved to Virginia for school. There, I began my fiddle teaching career and was a three time consecutive winner of the State Fiddle competition. Most recently, I self-released an EP of original songs I composed while traveling by bicycle and busking my way through Europe.

    My Teaching Philosophy
The first thing I always want to know is how the student envisions their ideal learning process. Most people can't express this very well but they can tell me about a violinist/fiddler they heard that made them want to play, or if they've been playing for a while they can tell me what their biggest frustrations are. I want to help mold you into the fiddler that you want to be but also help you find and embrace the fiddler that you are! If you're brand new, we'll talk a little about what brought you to the violin and then I'll jump right into how to hold the instrument and a bit of bowing. If you're not totally new, I'll have you show me what you know. Usually while you're doing that I'll see/hear something that needs attention and I'll know where to begin. From there my goal is to keep you excited and challenged, gaining confidence as you gain technique and sensitivity.
