    About MeContact Me
    Introduction
I am a fiddler fluent in a wide range of traditional styles (American old-time, Irish, Quebecois, Scandinavian, Eastern European), and have performed and taught for over forty years throughout the U.S, Europe and Latin America. I love the rich and diverse culture of the violin, which has absorbed music from every corner of the world in its 400 years of existence. I enjoy teaching both kids and adults, from the rank beginner to advanced players, sharing my knowledge and eclectic repertoire, and simply helping students feel comfortable with their instrument and playing with others.

    My Teaching Background
I have been teaching fiddle for over 35 years, both privately and in numerous music camps and schools in the US and Europe.

My own training started out with classical violin, and a few years later I made the transition to playing by ear. From that point on I learned repertoire and styles from the many fiddlers I met on my travels, and developed my own sound through on-the-job experience - playing for thousands of dances and concerts over the years.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I always find out the student's interests and needs and tailor my teaching accordingly.
    BASICS:
I make sure you are comfortable and relaxed while playing, in order to prevent injury down the road.
I teach by ear and if that is problematic we will work on basic foundational ear training. I am very patient.
I teach music reading to adults who are interested and to all kids, and some basic music theory.
I teach tunes according to your taste and musical interests as much as I can. I also like to introduce students to music they might not be familiar with.
I organize jam sessions for my students, so they have an opportunity to play with others, and a student recital once a year.

Playing the violin IS incredibly fun and fulfilling, but it can also be frustrating because, let's face it, it's quite a difficult instrument to master. So it's important to enjoy the small steps you make along the road.
