    Introduction
I am a cellist and have been teaching for 12 years now and have taught students of all ages and levels of playing. I started playing when 5 years old( not all that well but kept up my practicing through high school and then moved from Seattle to NY at the age of 17 and auditioned for Juilliard. I was accepted at Juilliard and spent several years going hungry but had Leonard Rose and Harvey Shapiro as teachers which made it worth living in New York which was a rough city to live in at the time. I did not begin teaching until I was in my 50's as I played in the New Jersey Symphony and also lived in Switzerland where I was the Principal cellist in a Swiss orchestra. I picked up some German while living and playing in Switzerland but not all that well. I moved back to the states and studied again with Eric Wilson ( winner of the Geneva competition ) and James Kreger ( winner of the Tchaikovsky competition ) to learn not only about my own cello technique but how to teach cello to beginners.

    My Teaching Background
What qualifies me to teach cello? Well, I waited many years before I began teaching. I did not want to misguide a student thereby making a student decide to quit. I have a degree from Juilliard (BA) and I know how important the rudiments of cello playing are. In my first lessons with Leonard Rose and also with Harvey Shapiro (you can look these two cellists up on you tube) I learnt more than I had in all my previous lessons. I have learnt how to watch and listen to a student play and understand what technique they need to improve. Rudiments are so important yet unknown by so many teachers. I have played professionally in major US and European orchestras but that does not mean that someone teaches well. I found that out myself. The hard way. I perform recitals and have a you tube channel there with various recitals I have played under Don Larson cellist.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I do not teach all students the same way. It just does not work well to do this. Some are short and some are tall. Some learn quickly and some less quickly. I teach the Leonard Rose bow arm as I think he had the best bow arm in the business. He taught Yo Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell to name a few. I work with the rudiments of cello playing so that students can learn how to teach themselves how to play. How to sit at the cello depends on the passage. How to hold the bow and how to shape the left hand depend on the passage. I teach breathing and how this helps to play a musical phrase as well.
