    My Teaching Background
I'm a 31 year old professional musician who has been playing drums and percussion for the last 17 years. I've taught for music studios in Connecticut and Los Angeles. I have played in numerous bands and toured the United States, Europe and Central America. The styles I teach are Rock, Jazz/Fusion, Latin, Folk/Indie, R&B/Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul, Metal and World Rhythms.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I've always thought that learning should be fun. I consistently try to bring a creative and laid-back approach to teaching drums. After the first lesson, most students realize that I don't take myself too seriously. Sometimes certain techniques or exercises can be tiresome or even boring. When this occurs, I switch gears and move on to something else. In my opinion, if a student is getting very frustrated it is generally best to relax and try a different exercise or beat. If we can't enjoy ourselves then what is the point?!

"Do I Need to Have a Drum Set or Hand Drum?"
No. I have started off teaching many students who only had a drum pad and a pair of sticks. While it is recommended that a student have a basic drum set, it is certainly not necessary in the beginning. If you want to learn hand percussion it is recommended to buy at least a used drum for a decent price.
