Anne Cronvich | Offering private lessons in Columbia, Maryland |
Welcome to my voice studio! My name is Anne Cronvich, and I have loved singing for as long as I can remember. My earliest memories are of my Dad and me at the piano on Sunday mornings. He would play and I would sing Big Band music. I finally began formal voice study as a senior in high school with the idea of going into Musical Theater. Of course, in the sixties all voice training seemed to be classical, but I discovered that I liked it (having a boyfriend who was an opera fanatic didn’t hurt, it gave me motivation.) I studied with a wonderful voice teacher for 8 years, the late Marguerite Egeler of Silver Spring, Maryland. She gave me a firm foundation in technique and a real love of classical singing. I eventually ended up at The University of Maryland in Baltimore County where I studied with Dr. Samuel Gordon who honed my skills and expanded my understanding of the classic voice repertoire from Art Song to Opera. It was during my UMBC years that I discovered that I had an ear for teaching. With Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Egeler’s encouragement I began to build my studio in the mid 70’s. Since 2000, I have turned my attention to learning more about the voice from a scientific perspective. I’ve continued to study anatomy and physiology of the voice and pass this information to my students. I’ve also been studying acoustics of the voice, which has been extremely enlightening for me as a teacher. It also became apparent to me that I needed more training in singing for the Musical Theater and other non-classical styles. This desire led me to study the Estill Voice Teaching System and I became licensed to teach it in the year 2002. I am also certified to teach Jeannette LoVetri’s Somatic Voicework, which is another non-classical training system. I never tire of reading and learning about singing. In fact, I have a vast library of books on pedagogy, psychology of singing/performing, repertoire, etc. I have never enjoyed anything as much as teaching and learning about the voice. In addition to voice study, I also studied acting at Catholic University for 2 Summers, Georgetown University for 1 Summer and The American University for 2 years. I continue to perform in Theater whenever I am able. Join me for a fabulous journey into the Land of Singing!!!
