    Introduction

Greetings! My name is Sean Michael Robinson, and I've been writing, performing, and recording as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist since 2002. I started out as a classically trained flute player, but soon ran off in many different directions, singing and playing guitar and keyboards in indie, folk and classic rock contexts. Through lessons with me, you or your child will be involved with an active member of the vibrant Seattle artistic and musical community.

I am currently accepting students of all ages.

    My Teaching Background

Iím a certificated secondary school educator in the state of Washington who has been teaching high school aged students for the past six years. As a teacher Iíve won numerous awards, including being named as Washington Art Education Associationís 2007 Young Art Instructor of the Year. I was also a Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund recipient in 2006. Since 2002 Iíve played with a wide variety of bands, appearing on eight different albums playing guitar, piano, keyboard, flute, drums, accordion, harmonica and other assorted noise makers.

    My Teaching Philosophy

I value the desired objectives of my students above all else, using the interests of my students to guide the development of their individual lessons. In other words, it's my job to get you to where you want to go. If you're interested in learning to play your favorite songs, or to accompany yourself or your friends singing, that's what we'll focus on. If you want to be able to improvise and jam in a variety of styles, that's how we'll use our time together. I come from a diverse background- classically trained on the flute, self taught for everything else. This background gives me a very practical and inclusive view on music instruction, one that makes me very flexible and responsive to your needs and desires.

In addition to teaching lessons solely focusing on technique, I can also help you with your songwriting. I can also help you learn to accompany yourself on your instrument of choice- guitar, piano, keyboard, or even accordion- and teach you how to use whatever instrument youíre most familiar with to aid you in your songwriting. If you donít yet play an instrument, I can also help you transcribe and arrange your song, based on your sung melody, so that other musicians can perform it with you.

Whether youíre just starting out, or whether youíre an experienced writer looking to push yourself to the next level, I can offer you the assistance and advice you need. I specialize in indie, folk rock, and classic rock, but I have an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music and I am capable of working in a variety of genres.
