    About MeContact Me
    Introduction
My name is Sara Iannelli. I am a graduate of Caldwell College where I received my BA in Music Education. My main instrument is flute; I've been playing flute for approximately 18 years. Since December 2007, I have taught private flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, piano, trombone, and music theory lessons. I teach K-6 general music and 5th and 6th grade choir full time in the Bloomfield school district. I am still playing the flute and piccolo in local community orchestras.

    My Teaching Background
I am highly qualified to teach private lessons. My experiences before I became a full time music teacher include: working with and observing band teachers in Verona, Livingston, and Paterson. I have taught private lessons in Livingston, Verona, Short Hills, Maplewood, Morristown, Fort Lee, Cedar Knolls, Passaic, Ridegwood, and Essex Fells, Bloomfield, and East Hanover.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I have great rapport with my students. I am able to connect with every student and get a feel for what their strengths and weaknesses are. I do not treat everyone the same; I differentiate with my students because each student learns differently from the next. I go over their band music with them, and if they are advanced I have them sight read for what I feel would be appropriate on their level. I do not like to bore my students, and I allow them to pick songs they'd like to learn as well. With hard sections I do not drill repetitively, I like to do fun activities with them (such as dissecting a section) and read it backwards and take it apart and put it back together. In my students, I make sure that they are not stressed out, and are enjoying themselves. I want to challenge them, but not overwhelm them. I have never gotten criticism from any parents, and many of them call me back year after year! I have been lucky enough to have parents who I can use as references, and both students and parents have been very happy with me.
