Sally Ramsden | Offering private lessons in Kent, Washington |
Sally Ramsden began studying the piano at the age of eight. In 1981 Sally was awarded the National School Choral Award, the Accompaniment Award and the Kent Music Study Club Award, a scholarship for music students. Later, she was a finalist, at the Bay View Music Festival in the Concerto Competition (MI), where she won second place, with a Mozart Piano Concerto. Sally attended the University of WA where she obtained two Bachelors degrees, a BA in Music, and a BM in piano performance. While at the U.W., Sally gave solo, and chamber music concerts, and accompanied vocalists. She also helped with musical preparation for the Opera Workshop (1986). Sally continued her studies at graduate level at the University of TX, in Austin.
In Everett, WA, a reviewer for the Everett Herald, wrote of a solo performance, " Sally Ramsden opened the second half of the concert with a piece by Ravel: Jeux d'Eau. It was, to this reviewer, the highlight of the evening. Much of the work had fluid, rolling runs, which Ms. Ramsden played as though they were long, silken threads, waving in a breeze. It was played so smoothly and flawlessly that the separate bit receded, leaving only the whole. It was an extraordinary effect... Ms. Ramsden looked as though she was not at all responsible for the music emanating from the black grand piano. She seemed lost in a world of her own... body swaying with the music... Her mind had done its work through hours of practice;now it was relaxing and enjoying what her fingers produced. Her other two pieces-Moments Musicaux by Schubert, and Sonata No.4 by Scriabin-displayed more of her superb talents. She handled the various tempos and volumes and shifts with easy grace..."
In 1996, Sally produced, a classical compact disc for Russian Virtuoso, Igor Denshik, and has produced two compact discs of solo piano of her own, more recently.
Sally has taught piano since 1986, and enjoys teaching all ages, and skill levels of student. I have taught students with learning difficulties, students with autism, and I have also taught particularly bright students, who have experience in competition. Before auditions, or student concerts, I hold group performance classes. I am a patient, and committed teacher, and am a member of the Washington State Music Teachers Association and National Music Teachers Association.

The following is my mission statement: "I strive to open my student's minds to classical, but other genres, as well, and instill in them a love of music. I instruct my students with patience and sensitivity, aware of each one's individual learning style and goals. Through the study of piano I hope to help them discover their own strengths and talents, and build in them a confidence that they can carry the rest of their lives."
