    Introduction
I am a professional flutist and a highly qualified, experienced, supportive instructor of Flute, Piano, and Music Theory in the Southwest Seattle area and in Bellevue, committed to inspiring students to learn and developing a deep appreciation and love for music that will last a lifetime.

    My Background
I have served as Principal Flute with Orchestra Seattle since 2003, and also hold Principal Flute positions with Rainier Symphony and the Northwest Mahler Orchestras. Previously I held Principal Flute positions with the Northwest Symphony and the Federal Way Symphony orchestras. I am featured as a repeat soloist with several orchestras in Seattle and appear as soloist with orchestras throughout the Western United States. I am a recitalist in Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest region, and regularly perform in Europe, China, and Hong Kong. In October 2003 I gave my debut recital in London as a Performing Artist for the Suisse Global Foundation. In addition to teaching and orchestral playing, I am a professional freelance musician in the greater Seattle area.

I hold a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from the University of Northern Colorado, pursued Post-Bac studies in Music Composition and Piano at the University of Montana, served on the faculty of Western Michigan University, and pursued doctoral studies in Flute Performance at the University of Washington. I have been teaching flute for over 24 years and piano/theory for over 12 years.

Former flute teachers/master classes include Felix Skowronek, Eric Hoover, Bernard Goldberg, Carol Wincenc, and Jim Walker. I studied piano at the University of Montana with Steven Hesla and also studied music composition there with Dr. Donald Johnston and Dr. Patrick Williams. I was the first woman in that institution's history to earn the prestigious Lowndes Maury Award for Music Composition.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that every student deserves a chance at getting the highest quality music instruction possible with respect, compassion, and unswerving support. The fundamentals each student learns from me are the development of musical understanding and expression, beautiful tone and strong technical development, and finding each individual's musical "voice." The lesson materials I choose are based on what will help students best learn the foundations of playing their instrument or to enhance the skills of more advanced students, and choosing materials that will inspire and engage the student. I also successfully prepare interested students for auditions, competitions, and solo/ensemble events. My students range in age from 5 years old to senior citizens, and skill levels from beginners to professionally trained musicians looking to expand their highly developed abilities. A whole world opens up to those who further their musical development via instrumental study, allowing students to develop a lasting love and profound appreciation of music no matter where their musical paths may lead.
