Janis Palmore | Offering private lessons in Lithonia, Georgia |
Introduction One of the parents offered the following vignette of Sound Learning Music and the instructor, Janis Palmore:
"If you are looking for a safe, clean and exciting place to introduce your children to the wonderful world of music, look no further. The Sound Learning Music Studio is providing just that and a great service! My two sons began piano lessons in October of last year and were playing like professionals in two months at their first Holiday recital in December. No, I am not exaggerating. I marvel at the fact that in such a short time, my children were reading and playing music with ease and such confidence. Ms. Janis Palmore, the wonder woman behind this operation, is an excellent teacher who has the unique ability of making learning fun. Her passion, dedication, and infectious love for not only the piano but her students are the factors that make a difference between her and other teachers. Ms. Janis translates that love to all who walk through the doors of the Sound Learning Music Studio. Moreover, her individual technique of teaching evokes the genius and stimulates a true desire for lifelong learning. I never have to tell these guys to practice piano. The love of piano is contagious and spreading at SLMS. I highly recommend anyone to let their children get bitten by this beautiful Lady Bug. Replace the video games with piano keys. You'll be glad you did. I know I am..." A.A. (Lithonia, GA)
My Teaching Background I began music studies when I was 8 and continued on to attend a performing arts high school, then on to New England Conservatory of Music and to Boston University School of Fine Arts. Although my undergraduate degree is not from either of these schools, I have had the benefit of learning from some of the very best teachers in the area of vocal studies and piano. With more than 20 years of teaching experience, I find that my best teachers are my students. I have learned to recognize and respect various learning styles. I am constantly challenged to "up my game" in terms of pedagogy because I find that students (like life) evolve. The student I taught 15 years ago is not the student of today. I have incorporated computer learning and encourage students to develop their skills in composition, playing by ear, making "beats," etc.
My Teaching Philosophy WE BELIEVE that all children can benefit from a balanced and sequential program of music study AND that such a program can serve as the foundation for personal achievement. WE FURTHER BELIEVE that the ability to touch and inspire others is one of the primary benefits of music study; AND that this is a skill that is FUN to learn.
I will consider teaching students as young as three who 1) know the alphabet; 2) have demonstrated an aptitude for music learning; and 3) have very strong parental support.
Rates And Availability I teach at home and offer four hour-long lessons each month. Lessons are $120.00 per month for one student in a family. Reduced rates are available for multiple students from the same family.
