    About MeContact MeBlog
I am a cellist, composer and band leader living in Seattle, Washington. My formal training is in traditional and non-traditional cello, and jazz and folk guitar.

    My background
I have an insatiable love of hearing new sounds and learning about new ways of playing and thinking about music. With other musicians' projects and with my own bands, the Black Cat Orchestra and Spectratone International, I arrange, perform and record music from Europe, Asia and Latin America. Much of my professional work is in collaboration bands and singer-songwriters such as Nirvana, David Byrne, Laura Veirs, Mirah, Cat Power, the Dead Science, Secret Chiefs 3, Seattle Creative Orchestra and many others, and with film makers, choreographers, international musicians.

As a soloist and ensemble member I have played throughout the U.S. and Europe, and have received many awards and commissions to compose and perform original works. A full description of my work, including audio samples, can be found at my web site:

    My teaching background
I began teaching privately over twenty years ago, and have taught at the Bush School in Seattle, Vancouver Academy of Arts and Academics in Vancouver, Washington, Idyllwild Arts Academy in Idyllwild, California, Seattle Festival of Alternative Dance, Rock Camp at Seattle's Vera Project, and Rock Camp for Girls at the Old Firehouse in Redmond.

    My teaching philosophy
I love playing and studying music, and am excited and honored to offer my students the instruction and support to help them grow as musicians. I strive to be a patient, caring, responsive, rigorous and fun teacher.

    Rates and availability
I teach from my private studio in Ballard. My rates are $30 per half hour, and $50 per hour. I currently have openings on Tuesday afternoons, and Thursday afternoons and evenings.
