    About MeContact Me
I am a professional violist, originally from Seattle, WA, now living in the Bellingham, WA area. Having a wonderful teacher in middle school, high school, who felt strongly about teaching good technique, through scales, etudes, and creating a rich, strong, yet warm viola sound, to apply to solo, chamber, orchestral repertoire, enabled me to progress as a viola major in music school, and in my professional career. I believe that learning to play an instrument helps develop confidence, determination, and discipline which helps one in academics and communication with peers through music.

    My Teaching Background
After playing co-principal violist in Seattle Youth Symphony under the direction of Vilem Sokol, and attending the University of Washington for 2 years, playing principal in orchestra, as well as studying chamber music, I received a full scholarship to attend University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music, receiving my BM in Viola Performance, studying with Donald McInnes. I have participated in Banff Summer Music program, Viola Master class, Music Academy of the West, co-principal violist of the orchestra and participated in viola master classes, as well as chamber music, then spent a year playing viola in Phoenix Symphony. I then went to graduate school at Eastman School of Music, studied with Martha Katz, and played in Rochester Philharmonic, as well as taught private viola lessons.

I moved to Chicago, where I free-lanced for many years, playing as a substitute violist with Chicago Symphony and Milwaukee Symphony, Lyric Opera, as well as teaching privately, and playing various chamber music concerts, and musicals, and studio work.

    My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that most students, young, and adult age, can benefit from music lessons, and if motivated through learning not just fundamentals such as scales, etudes, theory, but also being able to play fun, enjoyable music even at the beginning level, a student can progress fairly quickly, and see excellent results! Teaching viola students is rewarding for me, to see the progression as one practices regularly, see the confidence and smiling faces as a new skill or piece is learned, and I learn a great deal from my students, too.

I can help prepare students for their school concerts, solo/chamber competitions, and orchestra auditions, or simply learn to love the viola, as I do!
