    My Teaching Background
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Music from Washington State University. I began teaching in 2003, first with the Federal Way Community Center and then at West Campus Music Center. I was on the list of recommended private instructors through Highline Community College. I also worked with the Federal Way School District as a paraeducator while earning credits in Early Childhood Education at Highline. I spent the 2009-2010 school year as a volunteer with AmeriCorps at Federal Way Head Start. Currently, I teach both at home and with the Federal Way School of Music.
At church, I enjoy performing vocal and flute solos, playing with the worship band, and singing in choir.
Performance opportunities for my students have included recitals, solo and ensemble contests, invitations to play in local and international youth ensembles, and performances at local venues.
Since May 2015, I have been helping youth in need receive scholarships for 6 weeks of private lessons as the coordinator of the Federal Way Symphony Masters and Mentors program in partnership with the Federal Way School of Music.

    Teaching Philosophy
Music is a powerful form of expression that touches every area of our lives. We all have the ability to enjoy and express music, and I am dedicated to facilitating that discovery. Because the flute is the closest instrument to the voice, I incorporate some elements of singing into lessons. I use ear training, sight reading, theory, and very basic piano to help form a solid foundation. Though the fundamentals are the same for every flutist, I tailor lessons to each student's learning style.
I want my students to be engaged in music, which means exploring different artists (YouTube is great for this), playing at home - i.e. "practice", and willingness to perform when given the opportunity.
I am especially interested in working with those who experience performance anxiety.
