    Introduction
WHO I AM: I am a teacher and performer in the greater Puget Sound area. Resident to Tacoma for 20+ years. I teach cello, theory and beginning piano lessons to all ages. My very nature is to be a teacher and I thoroughly enjoy it. I like the challenge of creatively finding the right approach for each student to be successful. I am thankful to have and have had so many students over the years who become my friends in the process.

    My Teaching Background
I have taught hundreds of students since 1994 - many happy to play in their living room and many off to conservatory and a career of music.

Besides private lessons, I have taught in group settings at Pierce College, Tacoma Youth Symphony and Tacoma Public Schools.

Most every weekend I am performing with a variety of groups including my own Arcobaleno Strings and several other local orchestras.

    My Teaching Philosophy
CELLO: I teach ages 7-77, beginning through advanced. (If you have a student younger than 7, I suggest we start with piano first.) I pride myself on giving students a solid foundation in their cello study no matter which direction they hope to take. I am very methodical so as to not skip any important steps, but also flexible to find what works best for each student. With time and practice, students will learn correct technique as well as develop their musical voice and theory as it applies. I set up students to become fluent in reading sheet music as well as fine-tuning their auditory skills. Correct body mechanics are also emphasized to lesson the possibility of injury and to make beautiful music as easy as possible. For students in orchestra, we will be sure to spend time preparing orchestra music so that they can confidently participate.

THEORY: I teach theory to musicians and non-musicians alike. Perhaps you play an instrument or sing and would like a little help understanding better what is on the page. Maybe you are a music lover who doesn't play an instrument, but you are curious to understand what music is comprised of. Or maybe you are a parent of a music student and you want to understand what your child is learning. My sheer enthusiasm for theory means your lessons will never be "dry!" Music is a lot like math and puzzles. If you enjoy figuring things out, you will enjoy theory.

PIANO: Although I am much more a cellist than pianist, I enjoy teaching beginning piano and have had successful results getting new students off to a good start. I take beginning piano students as young as age 4. Piano is also a great instrument to set a strong musical foundation before switching to an orchestra or band instrument.

    Rates And Availability
LOCATION: I teach out of my music studio in my home in North Tacoma on Proctor.

AVAILABILITY: I teach a very limited number of students on Mondays from 2-6 and Fridays from 10-3.

RATES: $40 for 30 minutes, $50 for 45 minutes, or $60 for an hour. Share a lesson, split the cost. (Some orchestra students enjoy sharing a lesson when they are working on the same music together. It makes lessons more fun and motivates more practice.)

FLEXIBILITY: Lessons are scheduled and billed one month at a time based on our mutual availability. You are charged for lessons scheduled, not a flat tuition rate. A complete lesson policy can be emailed in advance or provided at your first lesson.
