    About MeContact Me
I am a full time touring roots musician songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, settling down in Seattle for the first time in 3 years. I have been playing music my whole life, and professionally for 7 years. You can find me on the web at

    My Teaching Background
I have been touring internationally for 4 years.

I have been playing guitar for 15 years, focusing on fingerstyle for the past 6. Mainly for self accompaniment, but I do instrumentals also (Mississippi John Hurt, Kelly Joe Phelps, Dave Van Ronk, Chris Smither, etc.). But also have experience flatpicking, and backing up bluegrass, old-time and folk players. I can also teach writing for guitar and voice. I am able to teach beginner to intermediate.

I have been playing clawhammer banjo for 5 years, and can teach beginner to intermediate including melodic and Round Peak styles, drop thumb technique, various tunings, playing approach, and writing.

I have been playing lap slide for 6 years, also mostly for self accompaniment, but love accompanying other singers, players and groups. I can teach beginner to intermediate.

I have been writing music for about 10 years, and am happy to share writing techniques and ideas, to help start writing, or to get past writing blocks.

I have a degree in music (emphasis in percussion) from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and can teach percussion (mainly drum set) specializing in early country, folk and roots. Can teach beginner to intermediate.

    My Teaching Philosophy
My approach to teaching is fairly different from a lot of teachers, as first of all, I do not read music. So, I do everything by ear and feel. I like to help students find their own way of solving problems they might be having, and finding their own way of dealing with the instrument, as creatively as possible. I also teach from a multi-instrumentalist perspective, which I think can shine some insight into situations, in knowing what the role of your instrument, and other instruments in a group would be, and how to interact freely and appropriately with them, both in professional and jam situations.

    Rates And Availability
I teach either from home, or can meet at your home (depending on location)

My rates are 50 an hour or 35 for a half hour.
