Rob PerL | Offering private lessons in Washington, District of Columbia |
Introduction Rob has been teaching electric and upright bass for over 20 years A former New Yorker, he has performed with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Jazz Greats, as well as National Acts. Rob uses and teaches a very relaxed technique on both instruments.
My Teaching Background He holds a Bachelor's degree from CW Post College and a Master's from Hofstra University. Teaching experience includes individual instruction and Jazz Worshops at Long Island University and The Collective in NY. Rob is experienced in all styles of playing - from classical to hard rock.
My Teaching Philosophy Bass students need to interact with other musicians. All students are encouraged to join groups and get as much group playing experience as possible.
Each student needs a personalized lesson program. That's why we never use a method book. Each student is given increasingly more difficult material, based on his or her individual progress and needs.
The key to improvement is regular practice. Techniques are learned by practicing popular songs, rather than exercises, making practice as enjoyable as possible. You can actually study while learning your favorite songs.
Reading is recommended, but mot mandatory. Technique, Theory, and Performance Techniques are emphasized.
Rates And Availability Teaching is done at Rob's studio in NE DC - convenient to the Red Line, 95, 395, 495 and 295. Parking and a waiting room are provided. Rates are $30 per half hour (recommended for Middle School students) , $55 per hour.
