    About MeContact Me
    Introduction
I am a professional oboist, teacher and reed maker servicing western and central Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and southern Vermont.

    My Teaching Background

Belchertown Massachusetts native, Aaron Lakota has a vested interest the local arts culture in New England, and hopes to promote music and the arts through performance, education, and community involvement. He has been educating young musicians in his community for fifteen years, and has been performing professionally for nearly as long. He believes that in order for a society to appreciate live expression, high level performance must be available within the local community. He hopes to encourage artists to build a local economy in their areas of passion, so that the community will benefit from their individual talents. He also encourages the community to show their appreciation for the arts by helping to support those artists that remain part of their local community.

Aaron began his collegiate studies at Holyoke Community college, and holds both bachelorís and masterís degrees in oboe performance from the University of Massachusetts. His main mentors are Fredric T.Cohen and Tamara Field. He has performed with many orchestras, symphonic bands, and choruses throughout New England. His active involvement as a chamber musician include appearances in recital series including the Mohawk Trail chamber series, Tuesdays in Bezanson at the University of Massachusetts, as well as other chamber and solo recitals throughout New England. He recently performed the Vaughn Williams oboe concerto with the Holyoke Civic Symphony, and the Oboe concerto by Clemence de Grandval with the Farmington Valley Symphony. Aaron is proud to be a founding board member and artistic advisor of the Valley Winds,a professional level wind ensemble based in western Massachusetts. Aaron acts as a professional reed maker when he is not performing or teaching. He provides reeds to hundreds of oboists throughout North America.

    My Teaching Philosophy
Music has been a very important part of my life since I was in middle school. I decided to make a career in music because I am very passionate about performance, teaching, and giving back to the community by encouraging individuals to find their own passion for what they do. I recognize every student to be an individual, and respond to their own learning styles and personalities on a case by case basis. I take a patient and encouraging approach, but also have high expectations for every student, and do expect each student to work to realize their own potential on such a difficult instrument. I hope to encourage every student to find their own intrinsic motivation to practice, work hard, and find the rewards that music can bring to their experience within life.
